Makaton

makaton

Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate.  It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order.

With Makaton, children and adults can communicate straight away using signs and symbols.  Many people then drop the signs or symbols naturally at their own pace, as they develop speech.

Dwylo’r Enfys is a show on S4C’s Cyw. In each episode, Heulwen leaves her home at the End of the Rainbow, and travels to Wales. Here she meets a new friend – a child with special communication needs. Together they go on an adventure, learning three new Makaton signs along the way.

Ceidiog produces many of Cyw’s programmes for young children. Amongst our popular shows are Y Diwrnod Mawr and Marcaroni. Y Diwrnod Mawr was nominated five times in six months for awards of international standing – including Rose d’Or, Royal Television Society and Bafta UK. We’re very proud of Dwylo’r Enfys – and it’s always an honour to spend time with children and their families. The programme – which first aired in December 2012 – has been nominated for two major awards so far – a Rockie in Banff and a Welsh Bafta.
